Vision 2025: Art Creates the Future
University of the Arts Helsinki asked its students to interpret the university’s vision through their own art. A video, Art Creates the Future, was created.
Watch the video and learn about the students’ thoughts behind their interpretations.

Don't think about art
Student Mirza Cizmic together with other Academy of Fine Arts students organised an event during Helsinki's Night of the Arts at Asema-aukio, where passers-by were invited to participate in the creation of a large painting. The event was recorded on video.
”As an artist I believe that I have a responsibility to bring people closer to art, because art is about sharing. I wouldn’t be an artist if I did not want to share an experience or a thought.”
–Mirza Cizmic, Academy of Fine Arts student in Painting
The music heard on the video was created by a group of Sibelius Academy students as a result of a collaborative composing session. The group used one of the university's values, courage, as a starting point.Listen to the video's music:
”During the brainstorming phase we listened to the first part of Sibelius' Violin Concerto and sought for inspiration. We brought out certain fragments and from there began to improvise and work on a collaborative composition. In a bold and open-minded way we aimed at creating something completely new, all the while keeping in mind the things from which we started off.”
–Venla Blom, student in Sibelius Academy's GLOMAS-programme
Theatre Academy's students in dance, choreography and directing decided to explore three words from Uniarts Helsinki's strategy: fresh, thinking and community.
"What is the true process of fresh thinking? Can 'fresh thinking' happen without crashing incomparable concepts and logics together? Newton had a scientific eureka moment when he was hit by the forces of nature (i.e. an apple), which served as a metaphor for the force of gravity. He had an irrational dialogue with nature, which led to something rational.
One day we met at my place and played around with some rough ideas and shot them with a video camera that we had borrowed. We explored the subject that day in our community of four artists, and the research resulted in a set of assorted clips."
–Anna-Maria Joakimsdottir-Hutri, Theatre Academy student in Directing
