Miela sorjjasmeahttunvuohta/ Mielen itsenäisyys/ Mental Independence

The event is a part of Uniarts Helsinki’s fourth Research Pavilion, taking place in Hietsun Paviljonki and its surroundings in Helsinki 5 June – 29 August 2021.

Miela sorjjasmeahttunvuohta/Mielen itsenäisyys/Mental Independence is a five-day slow conversation event. We shall talk about the mental independence of Indigenous peoples in Sámi, Finnish, English, and maybe in other languages, and do textile crafts at the same time. We hope that the presence of an open fire will lead us away from the time frame of academic seminars and inspire us to tell stories.

Conveners of the discussion are artist-researcher Katarina Pirak-Sikku, professor Lea Kantonen and senior researcher Hanna Guttorm.
