Marcelo Politano – Intercultural Encounters nr.2: Exploring Liminality

Marcelo Politano continues his artistic research on intercultural composition, exploring the threshold spaces between folk and classical music practices.
Politano’s recent works investigate liminality as a creative framework where musical structures, personal artistic identities, and idiomatic resources from diverse traditions merge and transform. The programme features new compositions for soloists and ensembles, engaging classical and folk/global musicians based in Finland and Estonia through instruments such as quena flute, overtone flute, kantele, accordion, torupill (Estonian bagpipe), classical and Brazilian percussion instruments, violin, clarinet, flute and bassoon.
The sonic landscape is defined by the combination of different idiomatic and idiosyncratic resources unique to the instruments, performers and music traditions, revealing a hybrid sound world that emerges “in between” aesthetic boundaries.
