International orchestra education project

The Sibelius Academy and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland develop their orchestra education together on several levels.

Presentation

The Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (Glasgow, UK) launched a collaborative project on orchestra education in 2021.

Through the project, we want to provide our students with diverse and international learning experiences, develop a more permanent strategic partnership between educational institutions and bring visibility to Finnish art education and a strong music culture.

In practice, cooperation means reciprocal visits for teaching and management faculty and students. For example, in 2022 and 2023, Sibelius Academy conducting students will be able to conduct the Royal Scottish Symphony Orchestra. In autumn 2022, twelve brass players from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland participated in the rehearsals and concert of the Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra. Reciprocally, a group of Sibelius Academy students will head to Glasgow in the spring of 2023 to participate in a similar course.

The international orchestra project of Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts is supported by the Jane and Aatos Erko Foundation, which supports high-level international research as well as art and culture. Among other things, the foundation offers grants, prizes and subsidies and supports research projects at institutions in the field in Finland and abroad.
