The Junior Academy’s Matinees at the Sibelius Academy

The Sibelius Junior Academy’s student and chamber music matinees are a series of concerts featuring students of classical music from the Sibelius Academy’s Junior Academy. The Junior Academy’s goal is to introduce musically talented schoolchildren and young people to goal-oriented music teaching. The concerts’ young performers come from all over Finland.

The Saturday concert programmes mainly consist of amazing solo performances by young musicians. With their varying repertoires, the concerts reflect both the high competence of our Junior Academy’s students and our diverse range of instruments.

Chamber music and its study open doors to a world where individuality and communality meet in the best possible way. Playing together develops, unites and enriches not only the musicians, but also the audience. At the Sibelius Junior Academy, chamber music is mainly studied during weekend camps organised at the Kallio-Kuninkala training centre in Järvenpää. The weekend camps culminate in this series of Sunday concerts, which are organised in Helsinki.
