Saariaho 70: Solo IV
A 15-minute concert is held daily in the lobby of the Helsinki Music Centre from 17th to 20th October at noon to present Kaija Saariaho’s solo works.
A 15-minute concert will be held in the lobby of the Helsinki Music Centre every day from 17 to 20 October at 12:00 noon to present Kaija Saariaho’s solo works.
Saariaho’s extensive output includes a large number of solo works for different instruments. They play an important role in the composer’s mindset. In these works, the sound arsenals of individual instruments experience transformations and expansions. The concerts feature compositions from three decades and their range of affects is varied. While Duft for clarinet, for example, takes technical expression to the extreme, Nocturne is the complete opposite, and reaches for the extreme of expressive resources.

The solos are part of a broader Saariaho 70 event which will be organised in the Helsinki Music Centre and its vicinity in cooperation with the Helsinki Music Centre Foundation, Urut Soimaan ry and Organo Novo ry from 15 to 20 October 2022. During the week, you can experience a wide array of Saariaho’s vocal and chamber music, solo works, organ and choir music and seminars. The “Soolo” (Solo) series is organised by Uniarts Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy.
