Sharing a common thread of rhythmic music and contemporary world music, in this concert, Merve Abdurrahmani Trio, recreates soulful melodies from the Balkans and fresh arrangements. Their powerful performances are full of warm and bright vocals, mouth percussion, rhythmical piano bass lines and virtuoso soloing.

Merve Abdurrahmani is a pianist from Finland with Kosovar roots. Her own compositions and fresh arrangement of familiar folk tunes and Balkan melodies combined with the element of improvisation, form musically expressive performances.

Nemat Battah is Palestinian Jordanian singer and oud player. Battah is very influenced by traditional Arabic music, rhythmic music and diversity.

Brazilian percussionist/composer Adriano Adewale is a versatile musician and performer, known for his unconventional and exploratory approach to music, and for his ability to create magical soundscapes from the seemingly banal.

Global Spring is an annual festival featuring students, teachers, alumni and special guests representing Sibelius Academy’s Global Music Department. The Global Music Department embraces pluralistic approaches to sound, culture and identity, creating new hybrid musical spaces through intercultural dialogue and collaboration. Expect a feast of dynamic, innovative and inspiring concerts, featuring performers from around the world celebrating the diversity of our planet.

This year’s festival features performers from countries including Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Iraq, Jordan, Kosovo, Latvia, Mozambique, Portugal and Tanzania.
