Multi-instrumentation

One of the most fascinating features of early music is the enormous number of different instruments and their constant evolution along with composing styles and techniques. Markku Luolajan-Mikkola plays a 4-string romance cello, 5-string baroque cello and 6-string and 7-string viola da gambas in this concert.  

Kirill Kozlovski plays harpsichord and a 19th century Erard grand piano. During the baroque era, it was common for musicians to play several instruments which was a major challenge for musicians even back then. It is a unique experience to compare different instruments played by the same musicians in the concerts. Correspondingly, changing instruments allows them to express themselves in different ways and to highlight new aspects of themselves.
