Middle Eastern Evening

The event is for all artists, specialists, teachers or students who are connected to or interested in the Middle East and Middle Eastern cultures. We are creating a platform to meet, to share our artistic and life experiences making a stage that prospers art, voices and opinions.

It is our mission as artists to develop ourselves and our art, to face new voices and stories that we have never heard before, spread awareness through performances, music, theatre and discussions. Especially these days that we are witnessing injustice and racism, we need to raise our voices through art against all unequal practices.

What is The Middle East Project?

The project has started under the dance pedagogy MA programme of Theatre Academy, the Uniarts Helsinki in January 2021.

The project is based on the importance of sharing different cultures and experiences to develop art and to provide the students of the Theatre Academy an opportunity to learn about new cultures and art styles through workshops, involving artists from the Middle East.

The aim is also to support Middle Eastern artists, allow them to develop their art, learn about Finnish culture, and provide information and opportunities for working in Finland.

The Middle Eastern evening is only the beginning of the project. We hope to provide more events in the future and include artists from Europe and all over the world.

Participating artists and presenters include:  Bakr Hasan (Iraq), Hazem A sharif (Palestina), Nemaat Bata (Jordan), Rami Thawi (Syria), Souroush Sayed (Iran), Ali Saad & Sanna Salmenkallio (Iraq – Finland), Saddam Aljumaily (Iraq), Kholoud Hawash (Iraq), Maryam Bagheri(Iran), Yousef Asaad Alkhateeb (Syria), NAFAS (Hassan Assaleh, Jalal Hajali, Youssef Assad Alkhatib, Salla Raunio), Jussi Lehtonen, Susanna Hast.
