KuvA Research Club Evening

The next KuvA Research Club evening, arranged by the Academy of Fine Arts, will be held in November. We invite all staff members, all doctoral students, and alumni of the Academy of Fine Arts, as well as all interested in artistic research to join and see, listen to and share what colleagues are working on right now.
The venue for the Club is the Academy of Fine Arts main building Mylly (Sörnäisten rantatie 19, Helsinki), 2. Floor, kitchen space K243 (Doctoral programme area).

Presenters at the November edition of the Research Club Evening are:
Magnus Quaife is the Professor of Fine Art Pedagogy at KUVA, he is a director of the organization Teaching Painting, and was previously the programme leader Fine Art at Manchester School of Art. He will reflect on aspects of his research and plans for its development including the transformative potential of Fine Art education and the place of the artist as educator.
Mika Elo and Denise Ziegler will introduce their coedited book Yhä osuvammin / More and More to the Point. The idea for this book was sparked by the observation that the valuable statements formulated during the preexamination processes in the Doctoral Programme at the Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki (KuvA) hardly enter into collegial discussions of artistic research. More and More to the Point presents the pre-examination documents of seven doctoral projects completed during the 2010s. This selection provides an insight into the multifaceted nature of doctoral projects in the Fine Arts and the delicacy of their assessment. Participants receive a copy of the book.

There will be some hot vegan soup from 16:15 on. If possible, please bring your own spoon and plate.

In a KuvA Research Club Evening one can present a work in progress or works or writings that are just finished or bring fragments of thoughts or works or treasures from the archives. The format can be e.g. moving image, speech, images, a demo.
