Echoes of Romanticism
19th century sounds and original ensemble compositions are brought to life by Raiku, a brass quintet using period instruments from the Romantic era.
Raiku was formed in 2019, and it is the first Finnish brass quintet to perform using period instruments. As its repertoire consists of the earliest pieces composed for chromatic brass instruments, the ensemble is also exceptional on an international level. The members of the quintet are cornetists Miikka Saarinen and Zoltán Kövér, French horn player Tommi Hyytinen, trombonist Antti Hirvonen and ophicleidist Nicolas Indermühle. Raiku’s first concert was held in Helsinki on October 23rd 2021. Raiku has recorded videos and performed the earliest known musical compositions written by Jean-Françoise-Victor Bellon for a brass quintet, along with other 19th-century French works, with French original instruments.
