Inaugural exhibition Ebb and flow

The inaugural exhibition of the new Kuva/Tila gallery.

The works of the artists participating in Ebb and flow include examinations of events, temporalities, and tensions in the context of the new building of the University of the Arts Helsinki. The works form relationships between various kinds of embodied, material, human, and non-human processes, which may not always have a specific direction. In general, the exhibition aims at providing reflective spaces for the guests to pause by the artworks and to analyse them.

The new Sörnäinen campus of the University of the Arts Helsinki is home to two academies: the Academy of Fine Arts and the Theatre Academy. Both academies are also represented in the artist selection for this inaugural exhibition. The exhibition has also been influenced by the question of how the public presentation of art can benefit from the increased level of convergence between the two academies.

Participating artists

The artists participating in the inaugural exhibition include students, doctoral and postdoctoral researchers of the Academy of Fine Arts and the Theatre Academy. Ebb and flow has taken form through discussions between the exhibition’s curator and the artists throughout 2021. The works in the exhibition have been constructed, and they have found their place in the gallery space, through this shared process of sensing and becoming affected.
