DIG. 2023: Benny Benack III Quintet
Presenting Benack III/Toftemark Quintet.
Based on previous collaborations in New York and a number of concerts at last year’s CPH Jazz Festival, Benny Benack III and Andreas Toftemark have teamed up again, and in September and October they will go on tour in Denmark, Finland, England, Germany, and Sweden.
Benack is one of the most famous trumpeters and vocalists of the new generation of jazz musicians. He has worked with a wide range of jazz’s biggest names including Christian McBride and Veronica Swift and has performed at some of New York’s most prestigious jazz clubs, including Birdland, Dizzy’s Coca-Cola Club and Lincoln Center. He has also been recognized by Downbeat magazine as one of jazz’s new top names both as a trumpeter and vocalist .Toftemark has performed at some of the most renowned jazz clubs in New York, Amsterdam, Paris, and Berlin. His critically acclaimed debut album “A New York Flight” was released in 2021 and he has already cemented his status as one of the most sought-after young jazz musicians in Denmark.
The band consists of some hard-working musicians from New York, including Joe Peri on drums, Rasmus Sørensen on piano, and Kaisa Mensivu on bass. Together, they will create extroverted and swinging music to inspire and excite the audience.

DIG.IJVC 4.–7.10.2023
This year, annual DIG. jazz festival of Uniarts Helsinki Sibelius Academy will be merged with the International Jazz Voice Conference (IJVC). The event will be held at the Black Box of the Helsinki Music Centre on 4–7 October 2023. DIG. evening concerts include performances by legendary Brazilian singer-guitarist Joyce Moreno, American singer-trumpeter Benny Benack III and his Quintet, and Sibelius Academy jazz music students together with students from Temple University (United States). During the day, the public can enjoy top international lectures and performances on jazz vocals by purchasing a separate IJVC ticket.
Mannerheimintie renovation project
Access to the Musiikkitalo from the direction of Mannerheimintie will be difficult. We recommend that you allow enough time for your arrival and use the entrance on the side of Kansalaistori if possible. According to current information, the entrance to Mannerheimintie will also remain in use throughout the renovation, but pedestrian routes can be challenging at times.
