One of the most sought-after universities in Finland

The bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes received a total of 4,458 applications, while the number of applicants was 3,514. The number of applications was 705 at the Academy of Fine Arts, 1,287 at the Sibelius Academy and 2,466 at the Theatre Academy.

Uniarts Helsinki is one of the most sought-after universities in Finland when set in proportion to applicant numbers, as about 11% of the applicants were admitted. The most popular application options were the Degree Programme in Acting and the Degree Programme in Fine Arts.

Uniarts Helsinki’s number of international applicants decreased from the previous years, which is the overall trend in Finland. In accordance with the Universities Act, bachelor’s and master’s students starting on or after 1 August 2026 must pay annual tuition fees that cover the full cost of their education. Starting from this autumn, the annual tuition fee at Uniarts Helsinki will be €28,000 per academic year. International applicants represented about 17% of our entire applicant pool.

The number of applicants and admitted students varies each year, because some programmes do not admit new students on a yearly basis. The application period for master’s studies in the Degree Programme in Fine Arts will take place in August 2026.

The new musical theatre programme attracted interest

The new Master’s Programme in Musical Theatre attracted wide interest in its first application round in spring 2026. The programme received 92 applications, and 10 applicants were selected to begin their studies this autumn. Five students will be based at the Sibelius Academy and five students at the Theatre Academy.

The first-ever master’s programme in the field of musical theatre in Finland and in the Nordic countries will offer high-quality and multidisciplinary education in acting, singing, dancing and musical expression. The programme will give students the skills needed for working in diverse roles in the field of musical theatre – as a performer, artistic creator and visionary.

“The selected students form a really interesting and diverse group. The programme will challenge us to come up with new, creative ways of organising teaching and give students opportunities to engage with a wide range of different work environments. It’s also important that musical theatre is now regarded as its own art form at the university level. The degree programme has received a very encouraging welcome both from the arts scene and from within Uniarts Helsinki,” says Professor of Musical Theatre Martina J. Roos.
