Global Spring: Pan-African Ensemble
This intercultural musical creation is inspired by pan-African rhythms and dance. The ensemble features Tanzanian dance teacher, Ally Zakoo together with Mozambican drummer and composer, Chico Matada in collaboration with global music students.
Throughout the spring semester, the ensemble has been creating their own tunes inspired by the pan-African rhythms and dances and during the concert you will experience both traditional dances and original compositions.
The African concept of musicking is a two-way street, and the audience is invited to move, groove, and celebrate together. The pan-African ensemble is comprised of bachelor and master’s students from the Global music department led by Kasheshi Makena with assistance from Chico Matada. You are all welcome.

Global Spring
Global Spring is an annual festival featuring students, teachers, alumni and special guests representing Sibelius Academy’s Global music programme. The global music studies embraces pluralistic, fluid approaches to sound, culture and identity, creating new hybrid musical spaces through intercultural dialogue and collaboration.
