Introduction

The professional field of a dance artist has diversified and expanded radically in a relatively short period of time. This can be seen e.g. how the artistic materials, methods, structures and contexts of the work have expanded and diversified. This development is also taken into account in the content of education, the flexible structure and the possibility to make individual choices. In artistic projects, students have the opportunity to work on their own artistic practice, shared authorship and / or choreography-led process. The student is able to determine for themselves their personal orientation and focus area in their studies. Below we present the projects included in the studies.

Solodemos

The autumn project of the first year is a solo demo. Solo work is backgrounded by opening e.g. issues of authorship, performance, and pursuit historically and theoretically. After workshops focusing on different aspects of solo performance, the student works independently with the themes of their choice. The base of the solo can also be built for the adaptation or translation of a previously created work. In the study unit, performer work is practiced, presenting unfinished, evolving processes in a collegial environment, observing, discussing and sharing learning.

During this course the questions of authorship, performance and practice are discussed theoretically to provide background for solo practice. After workshops focusing on different aspects of solo performance, the student works independently with the themes of their choice. The base of the solo can also be built on an adaptation or translation of a previously created work. During the course, performers work is practiced by presenting unfinished, evolving processes in a collegial environment, observing, discussing and learning together.

Methods of dance performance

Objective of the course is to reflect upon one’s agency and to practice working dialogically in artistic collaboration with the MA choreography students. Small working groups will investigate choreographic methods and premises through exercises, discussions and demonstrations.

TADaC – Theatre Academy Dance Collective

MA artistic thesis can be:

  • TADaC – Theatre Academy Dance Collective project
  • Own artistic project accepted by the MA programme
  • Working as a performer in other student’s artistic project
  • internship in a professional project on the art field

OFF productions

As part of the studies, students can make their own performances outside the activities of the Theater Academy, if there is space after the projects that belong to the curriculas of the university’s degree programmes. The degree programme does not provide production funding for these projects, but they may be included as part of the studies.
