Soiva kieli vocal music series: Schubert in 1823
A Watershed Year

This concert shines a spotlight on Schubert as a Lied composer in 1823, exactly 200 years ago. In this year, he wrote some of his most famous songs, including Du bist die Ruh and Auf dem Wasser zu singen as well as the epic ballad Viola, one of Schubert’s most ambitious experiments in the genre of the Lied. The concert is preceded by a talk by Professor Graham Johnson, one of the world’s most renowned Lied pianists and the great Schubertian scholar of our time.

In Sibelius Academy’s Soiva kieli vocal music series, four lied concerts are performed each year by vocal arts and piano students. The Artistic Director of the series is Keval Shah, lecturer in Lied.
