Open University route to Uniarts Helsinki’s degree programmes
You can apply for degree studies after first completing the required number of credits at the Open University.
What are route studies at Uniarts Helsinki?
Route studies refer to Open University studies that are subject to a fee and that give you the eligibility to apply to specific degree programmes in a separate admissions group. You can apply for route studies during the Open University’s application periods.
After completing the route studies, you can apply to your chosen programme to pursue degree studies in the joint application procedure for higher education. Besides completing the route studies, you must also meet the other application criteria of the degree programme.
The studies will give a versatile overview of the range of topics discussed in the programme and support your future academic progress and working life. Credits for the route studies will be transferred to your degree if you are admitted to the programme as a degree student. In this case, you will have a head start on your studies thanks to the already-earned credits, making it easier for you to complete your degree.

Route studies in music technology
The scope of route studies in the Degree Programme in Music Technology is 28 credits. The route studies introduce students to various aspects of music technology, including sound recording, live sound, electroacoustic music and the history of film and game music. You will learn about and utilise tools, techniques and theoretical frameworks relevant to music technology.
These route studies are suitable for you if you already have a bit of experience in music technology themes but would like to continue deepening your skills. A gap year after general upper secondary education and vocational education, for example, is a good time to pursue route studies.
You will get to increase your understanding and skill set to a whole new level in the field of music technology through lectures and practice-oriented courses. Completing route studies is a great opportunity to take steps towards a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in music technology.
The application cycle for route studies in music technology is organised every other year during the Open University’s application period in August.
For more detailed information on the route studies, visit the study guide.
