Sound Art and Sonic Arts

The goal of Sound Art & Sonic Arts study module (SAMA) is to examine sound as a wide-ranging form of contemporary art. The artistic practices and contexts of sound art stem from the fields of music, sound design, visual arts and performing arts. With its diverse areas of expertise, The University of the Arts offers an excellent environment as well as the necessary facilities for an interdisciplinary approach to Sound Art and Sonic Arts.

The education combines the knowledge of Uniarts’ three academies: Sibelius Academy, the Academy of Fine Arts and Theatre Academy Helsinki. SAMA is a University of the Artsstudy module aimed at developing mobility and collaboration between the academies.

University of the Arts Helsinki is Finland's national university for the arts—the country's highest institution for fine art, theatre and music. SAMA is coordinated by the Open Campus, and planned jointly by Time and Space Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts, the Masters' Program of Sound at Theatre Academy Helsinki and the Department of Music & Technology at the Sibelius Academy.
