Let It Sound! – new chamber orchestra works by composition students
Avanti! Chamber Orchestra performs compositions of Sibelius Academy students.
In a joint project between the University of the Arts and the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, five budding composition students from the Sibelius Academy will be able to explore the world of percussion in their new works. In the project, the 13-piece chamber orchestra is surrounded by more than 30 different percussion instruments, each of which is operated in turn by two percussionists in solo roles. The fluidity of the drums, the juiciness of the mallets, the cacophony of the metal instruments and the maze of spatially positioned percussion instruments will be tested by each of the project’s student composers of different nationalities, using both traditional techniques and the most unconventional methods.
