Sibis Jazz Ensembles with Jim Beard

We are back with the Sibis Jazz Ensembles concert series.

As the guest artist, this time we are honored to have a very distinguished keyboard wizard Jim Beard. Jim recalled that the first time he visited our jazz department was around 1993-1994, meaning we are celebrating 30 years of musical friendship. Jim defines the concept versatile keyboardist.

He has recorded with artist from an extremely wide range of musical styles. From Dizzy Gillespie to Brecker Brothers, from Dianne Reeves to Meshell Ndegeocello and from Toninho Horta to Steve Vai. He is also known from his long collaboration with the legendary Wayne Shorter. Currently he is touring the US with Steely Dan.

Jim performs with two ensembles consisting of the students of Sibelius Academy Jazz department. He has curated the instrumentation and the material for the ensembles. It will definitely be a special night.

The concert is a part of 40 year anniversary of jazz tuition in Sibelius Academy.

Studying Jazz at the Sibelius Academy

The jazz music students at the University of the Arts Helsinki Sibelius Academy form a community of like-minded jazz talents. The faculty includes Finland’s leading jazz musicians and numerous international stars. The program is particularly known for its rich array of masterclasses, featuring visits from many of the brightest stars and legends in the world of jazz. In addition to studies, the program organizes concerts, the annual DIG. festival, and collaborates closely with many other Finnish jazz organizations. The Sibelius Academy’s jazz education is also part of the international community of jazz schools. After graduation, students can further their studies in the doctoral studies in jazz music, specializing in scientific, artistic, or applied doctoral studies.
