About the artwork
“Mum, Dad, I’m a boy,” I wrote in my diary shortly before coming out to my parents in 2017. What followed were years of battling through the trans healthcare system and undergoing my transition, all of which I documented in my diary.
The diary became a way for me to process the complex emotions associated with being transgender.
Themes of transition are reflected in the execution of the work. I transferred the printed diary pages onto canvas and then sewed them together.
