Jaakko Uljas

About the Artist
Jaakko Uljas (b. 1999) works mainly with painting and installation. In his works, imagery collected from the internet, art history and personal experience is combined with everyday and industrial materials. Images shift from one context to another, forming new connections. Uljas is interested in how images produce and direct desire and belief, and how meanings take shape in the continuous circulation of images.

About the artwork
The work is composed of three oil paintings, whose topics allude to Christian mythology, the history of painting, and present-day online imagery. Human characters and grazing horses are depicted in indeterminate spaces, where the sacred and the profane, the private and the public, can become intertwined without conflict.
