About the Artist
Emma Huoso (b. 2001, Brussels) is a visual artist whose work intertwines embroidery and painting on canvas. Her subjects draw from memories, dreams, and everyday observations. They often take on an odd or humorous tone. Navigating the tension between materials, she explores the legacies of femininity tied to embroidery and their weight.

A large embroidery hoop frames the painting, bringing a tool of craft into dialogue with the work.
I explore the tension between the fast gestural mark of paint and the slow, labour-intensive process of stitching, a technique loaded with cultural and gendered associations. Through embroidery, I bring the canvas beneath the painting back to the surface, letting it converse with the paint.
The braid threading through the work references the story of Rapunzel. It acts as a visual extension of the embroidered thread, linking different layers and spaces within the piece.
