The academies have published their campus instructions – the university facilities have been partially reopened 1 June–31 July 2020

The university has now partially reopened its facilities for studies, teaching and other work in accordance with jointly agreed-upon principles. For the most part, however, the facilities will stay closed until 31 July 2020. Decisions concerning the autumn term (1 August–) will be made by Midsummer, 20 June.

Starting from Monday, 1 June, visitors to the university facilities will follow the academy-specific and unit-specific instructions, which have been compiled based on the joint principles established by Uniarts Helsinki’s executive group:

  • When it comes to teaching, the priority is given to work that contributes to students’ graduation within the year 2020, work that cannot be carried out outside of the university facilities, and work that cannot be delayed until the autumn term. This work may entail teaching and guidance related to students’ thesis projects.
  • When it comes to students’ independent work, the priority is given to activities that contribute to graduation within the year 2020, work that cannot be carried out outside of the university facilities, and/or work that cannot be delayed until the autumn term. For example, these activities may include
    1. practising with an instrument for proficiency demonstrations at the Sibelius Academy, if practising outside of the university facilities is not possible with the instrument in question
    2.  artistic work of Academy of Fine Arts students in studios
    3. independent practice of Theatre Academy students.
  • As for research activities, the priority is given to work that cannot be carried out outside of the university facilities and work that cannot be delayed until the autumn term.
  • When it comes to preparations for artistic activities taking place in the autumn, the priority is given to work that contributes to students’ graduation within the year 2020, work that cannot be carried out outside of the university facilities and work that cannot be delayed until the autumn term.
  • As for work that is not related to teaching, the priority is given to activities that are critical in terms of the continuity of the university’s operations or that support students’ graduation within the year 2020.

Academy-specific instructions for the use of the facilities:

Safety measures concerning the use of Uniarts Helsinki facilities

To ensure the safe use of the facilities, the university has compiled general safety guidelines concerning the use of facilities as well as related academy-specific policies. All those who use the facilities must act responsibly and follow the joint instructions:

  • You cannot come to the university facilities if you are sick. If you have a fever, symptoms of a flu, stomach symptoms or other coronavirus-related symptoms, stay at home.
  • Protect yourself and others by keeping a two-metre distance to other people. Refrain from greeting by shaking hands or hugging and use alternative methods.
  • If possible, work alone in the space that you are using.
  • Avoid touching surfaces, handles, banisters etc. and do not stay in the facilities if you do not have to.
  • Only one person is allowed in the elevator at a time.
  • Take care of good hand hygiene and clean the surfaces of devices and other items that are in shared use.
  • If you need to clean instruments, you can pick up the cleaning equipment and instructions from the info desk at the M, R, N and Kookos buildings prior to your practice session.
  • When commuting to the university, choose to walk or ride a bike to work instead of using public transport, whenever possible.
  • Stay in quarantine for 14 days after returning home from abroad.
