Practise orchestras in conducting

Practise orchestras are made up of students and led by conducting students as part of their studies.

About the orchestra

Practise orchestras in conducting and wind instrument orchestra conducting are known in Finnish as ‘kapubändi’ and ‘puhallinkapubändi’. They are orchestras made up of students, with conducting students serving as the conductors on a regular basis. Playing in these orchestras is a good way to learn the basic orchestral repertoire. The size of the orchestra varies depending on the repertoire in use. The practice sessions mainly take place at Musiikkitalo. Participation in a practise orchestra is not regarded as a part of studies and does not accrue ECTS credits. Instead, the musicians are paid an hourly remuneration.
