Introduction

Timothy Smith, Ph.D., MFA, (they/he) is a multiply neurodivergent artist, educator, and university researcher in the Artist Pedagogy theme at the Research Institute. Their research focuses on disability- and neurodiversity-affirming approaches to higher education in the arts, with a particular emphasis on analyzing and challenging ableism as it intersects with white supremacy, colonialism, patriarchy, and cis-heteronormativity in university institutions. Their current research project is titled “Artistic Processes of University Art Students Self-Identifying Along the Neurodiversity Spectrum”. The study seeks to learn about the neurodiversity experience of neurodivergent students’ engagement with artistic thinking through their artistic processes.
