Introduction
Selina Sillanpää is a Lecturer in Pop/Jazz Voice at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki, within the Music Education Programme. Sillanpää has over 30 years of experience as a singer-songwriter, musician, and composer in various ensembles and bands. She has worked extensively in the music industry both in Finland and internationally. At the University of the Arts, Sillanpää is actively involved in teaching, pedagogical development, and research. Her areas of expertise include pop/jazz voice, songwriting, pop/jazz vocal pedagogy, and musical theatre.
She is a doctoral candidate at the Sibelius Academy’s MuTri Doctoral School. Her artistic research explores the experiences of female and non-binary singer-songwriters within the male-dominated field of popular music. The research focuses on the search for alternative, emancipatory pathways toward artistic agency and professional identity.
