Unfolding Island Ecologies
Unfolding Island Ecologies brings together international artists from the University of the Arts Helsinki whose works respond to the unique island environment of Suomenlinna.

Exhibition about ecological vulnerability
Through multimedia installations, performances, and participatory works, the exhibition explores themes of ecological vulnerability, resource constraints, and multispecies interconnectedness.
The exhibition is an outcome of the Ecological Thinking (2024-25) course organized by Dr. Samir Bhowmik (Academy Research Fellow) at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts Helsinki in collaboration with Helsinki Biennial 2025. The exhibition is part of the Terra-Performing Project funded by the Research Council of Finland.

Opening Event and launch of publication

You are warmly invited to the opening event for Unfolding Island Ecologies on Wednesday 4 June, at 17:30-20:00.
The exhibition is accompanied by the launch of an edited compilation of essays published by the Academy of Fine Arts (Art Theoretical Writings #23) as an artistic research output of the course.
The co-editors of the compilation are Samir Bhowmik, Kati Kivinen and Blanca de la Torre, and is funded by the Research Council of Finland.
