Spatial Audio Week: Bafoussam Sound Walk in Helsinki

A mobile sonic walk transposed from West Cameroon Bafoussam to Helsinki to be experienced in situ by walking down the Töölö Bay path equipped with a mobile device, SoundWays application and headphones, or by listening at a distance.

Programme

  • Marianne Decoster-Taivalkoski: Sound Constellations in Flux: Bafoussam Walk in Helsinki

How to address the theme of migration in an experiential manner?

Mobile sonic walks are a form that allows listeners to hear simultaneously the audio material and the environmental sounds of the physical place where the path unfolds. Such a compositional form builds relationships between the environment evoked in listening and the environment felt in being, between recorded sounds and things present or happening in the place of the walk. Sometimes these two things merge or blend into emerging meanings or sensations. Like if the places would merge in one, bringing listeners of different places together in sharing listening experiences.

Artist doctoral researcher Marianne Decoster-Taivalkoski is on the site on Monday 27.11 at 4.30 pm, Tuesday 28.11 at 12.10, and on Friday 1.12 at 5 pm, Töölönlahdenkatu 16 C.
