Opening of the 2026–2027 academic year

Welcome to celebrate the start of the new academic year at the Sörnäinen campus in the Academy of Fine Arts’ main building, Mylly, on 10 September starting at 15.00!

The opening festivities will take place in the 2nd-floor lobby in the Mylly building on the Sörnäinen campus, and afterwards, attendees are welcome to visit the BFA exhibition in the Kuva/Tila gallery.

Events of the opening day

11:00–14:30

X Market at Tori in Kookos on the Sörnäinen Campus

The opening day programme brings X Market to the Tori courtyard in the Kookos building to showcase various aspects of university life. What kinds of things are happening in the Uniarts Helsinki community and in its wider networks? What activities are possible here, how can we influence matters, and where do we get help and support? Drop in between 11:00 and 14:30 to find some answers to the previous questions and meet fellow community members in a casual setting.

13:30

Procession from Töölö to Sörnäinen

Participants should gather at the Sibelius Academy entrance of Musiikkitalo on the Töölönlahti Park side of the building at 13:20. The procession will depart from the Töölö Campus at 13:30.

Join the procession from Musiikkitalo to Sörnäinen! The procession will end at the Sörnäinen Campus, where the opening festivities to celebrate the new academic year will start at 15:00. The goal is not to just move from point A to point B but to make people on the streets of Sörnäinen and Töölö and in between see and hear the Uniarts Helsinki community. We will spread good vibes through music and singing. Please bring your own weatherproof instrument if you want to join in the jam!

We especially hope for new members of the Uniarts Helsinki community to walk in the procession, but all students and staff members are more than welcome to join. Let’s make our way to the opening ceremony together so nobody needs to go alone! The walk will last about an hour.
