Sild/Silta
Exchange exhibition: Academy of Fine Arts & Estonian Academy of Arts 23 October – 15 November 2026
About the exhibition
Uniarts Helsinki’s Academy of Fine Arts is continuing its international exhibition exchanges through a new collaboration with the Estonian Academy of Arts (EKA). The exhibition, Sild/Silta (Bridge), brings together eleven students from both academies, creating connections between artistic practices and learning environments across the Gulf of Finland.
The exhibition explores the idea of a bridge as both a physical structure and a metaphor for encounter. Through shared exhibition-making, students build relationships between two neighbouring countries and two academies. The process encourages dialogue, mutual learning, and an exchange of experiences that extend beyond individual artworks.
In October 2026, students from the Academy of Fine Arts and EKA come together at Kuva/Tila to present the first half of this collaboration in a shared exhibition space. By learning how another academy presents and discusses contemporary art, students gain insight into the wider cultural contexts that shape artistic production and public engagement.
The collaboration will continue in January 2027, when the same group of students presents a second exhibition at the EKA Gallery in Tallinn. Together, these two exhibitions form a living bridge (Silta, Sild) between Finland and Estonia, allowing artistic ideas, working methods, and cultural experiences to travel in both directions.
Curators from Academy of Fine Arts: Päivi Takala, Salla Tykkä, Laura Wesamaa ja Toni Vallasjoki and EKA: Merike Estna, Kristi Kongi, Kaisa Maasik.
