Aikamme musiikin luentosarja: Sampo Kasurinen
Composer Sampo Kasurinen presents his recent opera “Trapped Butterfly”.

Composer Sampo Kasurinen presents his recent opera “Trapped Butterfly”, which was premiered in summer 2023 by Our Festival, Kuhmo Chamber Music and Raumo Festivo, to a libretto by Aina Bergroth and directed by Siljamari Heikinheimo.
In the lecture, Kasurinen will discuss the opera’s references to “Madame Butterfly” by Puccini. “Trapped Butterfly deals with suicide as seen from the perspective of the adult son of the title character. Puccini’s familiar opera depicts an imperialist, patriarchal culture that drives the young mother Butterfly to take her own life. In the new work, Ocean attenmpts to understand his mother’s decision in order to find his own place in the world.”

Mannerheimintie renovation project
Access to the Musiikkitalo from the direction of Mannerheimintie will be difficult. We recommend that you allow enough time for your arrival and use the entrance on the side of Kansalaistori if possible. According to current information, the entrance to Mannerheimintie will also remain in use throughout the renovation, but pedestrian routes can be challenging at times.
