Vita Edvards
About the Artist
Vita Edvards (b. 1994) is an artist from Helsinki. They work with moving image, photography and installation art. Edvards’ approach is sociological and they look at the surrounding world with a gently mischievous gaze. The material and the elements of their works are often found in their everyday life and immediate surroundings. In Edvards’ observations, the ordinary often becomes miraculous, and the figurative, abstract or absurd.

About the artwork
First there was water damage – a home that flooded.
What followed was neurosis: the need to scrub under the fingernails and shower at least three times a day.
The shower became familiar, but not safe. What if somebody forgets to turn the shower off? What if the tap is left on? The living room becomes a pool? The pipe bursts and spreads water uncontrollably? Ruins the hardwood floor and turns books into papier-mâché. What if what is solid becomes liquid, and mould starts to grow under the floor?
In my work, I discuss the circular movement of fear, neurosis and control. The fear clings onto domestic objects – the tap, the sink and the cables, reminiscent of blood vessels.
