About the Artist

Sandra Lola Dada (b. 1991) works mainly with video, installation and performance. Her work centres on DIY culture, feminism and humour. In her work, she particularly examines agency and the “bursting” of everyday life. Sandra has been involved in founding interdisciplinary entities such as the activist group Cult Cunth and the street art institution Wasa Graffitilandia, and she feels that her spiritual home is in subcultures.

About the artwork

In recent years, my artistic work has focused on my punk duo RÄKÄlicious: creating its visual identity, song lyrics and music videos. Räkä means snot. Through RÄKÄlicious, I create a world grounded in DIY aesthetics, humour and a feminist perspective. DIY, as an approach, strengthens personal agency and gives you the freedom to do things your own way, trusting your own solutions.

The songs were composed and produced by the duo’s other half, Mai Pesonen. RÄKÄlicious will perform at the BFA show on 27 Sept at 3 pm. Below is the Snot Manifesto:

We are SNOTlicious
As wet look we take seats at better tables
We drip onto walls and chairs
As snot we stretch
Snotliciously shimmer and shine
From sewers to stages
From stages to sewers
From one snot to another
Snot away snot heads
