Mari Mäntynen
About the artwork
In the Stranger photo series, Mäntynen poses for a photo with people she has never met before. Together they ask: How do we pose for a photo? Can we touch each other? What can we do together?
In the Jailer’s Daughter project, Mäntynen returns to the landscapes of her childhood in the Kerava prison area. In the video work, the prisoners and Mäntynen form a human pyramid in the prison area.
About the artist
Mari Mäntynen’s (b.1997) artistic work focuses on the question: how can we understand each other better? She deals with tensions and social problems through collaboration, play and absurdity. Mäntynen uses photography, video and performance as a method to bring people together, challenging them to confront each other and their prejudices. The works are participatory and Mäntynen also performs in them herself.
