About the Artist

Jimi Rautakoski (b. 1997) works with acrylics, oils, pens, pencils, markers, spray paints and inks on paper or canvas. This BFA exhibition work is done on canvas with acrylics, oils, markers and pencils. Jimi is interested in everyday subjects that are usually seen as boring. Other interests are perspective, illusory geometrical forms and space, trickery with fillers, different textures and marks.

Geometric art is usually about something sublime like God, utopia or truth. I love it. I love boring insignificance, I’m a statistic and an idler, my geometries are seemingly about chipboard furniture.

…hh. I barely managed to dig the Ikea catalogue out of my throat. While I was nearly passing out, I had this epiphany: multicoloured Kallax shelves that repeat, stretch, deepen and flatten.

The deep grid of Kallax shelves moves and changes, from one painting to another, it looks like an ad, a living room or an abstract labyrinth. It is versatile!
