About the Artist

Eeri Halminen (b. 2003, Oulu) bases their practice on painting, continuing into moving image and installation. Halminen’s work merges individuality, community, culture, spirituality, nature, and digitality. In their work, they compose the absurdity of today in relation to the stable and universal. Could the unfoundedness of the present moment be harnessed as a unifying and supporting force of this generation?

About the artwork

With my artwork, I have been contemplating the following themes, phenomena and processes, and their relationship to each other: fascism, layers, repetition, composing, manhood and masculinity (in my dreams and in our time and space), the non-trendiness and violence of masculinity, individuality, and the crisis of desire and pleasure. I’ve created a linear narrative for the painting, its stages being: innocence and purity – 2016, the age of the unicorn – I need to be special! – Sörnäinen – liberation and the future.
