Aino Peltola
About the artist
Aino Peltola (b. 2001, Mäntsälä) is a painter based in Helsinki. At the core of her practice is a playful negotiation with rhythm and repetition, through which images begin to take shape. Her paintings often draw from piles and heaps encountered in everyday life – both accidental and intentional – reflecting the endless sprawl and overgrowth of the surrounding environment.

About the artwork
I stare out of the window, and suddenly something ordinary reveals its exciting sides and invites me to observe. It’s been there day after day, but today it’s particularly delightful. This is how these oil paintings came to be.
In my paintings, the mundane gets a new look on the canvas. Painting is fun when you don’t have to obediently repeat your visual observation but can play, add, remove, smear, and brush, even filling the entire canvas with similar brushstrokes. Soon, the original observation is left with only a skeleton, but that’s what holds the whole thing together.
