Sibelius Academy doctoral programme and research centre

We are an internationally networked, multidisciplinary community, where students and researchers are able to build their own personalised artist and research paths.

The Sibelius Academy doctoral programme and research centre bring together a wide range of fields and themes in music and art, such as music education, jazz, folk music, global music, music technology, music performance, composition and music theory as well as church music, early music, arts management, creative entrepreneurship, music business and cultural study of music.

Our research is multidisciplinary and conducted both in the work of individual researchers and externally funded projects. Our activities include projects run by individual researchers and artists as well as a wide range of national and international research projects. We also develop research in close cooperation with other actors at Uniarts Helsinki.

The doctoral programme involves approximately 150 doctoral researchers in three different specialisation areas: Arts Study Programme, Research Study Programme and Applied Study Programme. We encourage them to build personalised artist and researcher profiles and develop their own research methods and culture.
