Active Acoustics – Smart Audio objects at the Interface of the Material and the Digital

Academy of Finland Key Project by Otso Lähdeoja, targets the development of pioneering audio applications combining structure-borne sound and sensor technology into a set of Active Acoustic Objects at the interface of the material and the digital.

Introduction

“Active Acoustics – Smart Audio objects at the Interface of the Material and the Digital” is an Academy of Finland Key Project, which targets the development of pioneering audio applications combining structure-borne sound and sensor technology into a set of Active Acoustic Objects at the interface of the material and the digital.

Two key focus areas have been identified during the basic research phase accomplished during applicant’s current Academy of Finland postdoctoral project on structure-borne sound:

  1. active acoustic instruments,
  2. audiotactility in sound diffusion systems.

The project’s target is to establish a pioneering hub of expertise in Active Acoustics, operating as a creative agency that fuels the commercialization of active audio applications by third parties.
