Introduction
Maryam Bagheri Nesami is a migrant, a choreo-writer and curator from Iran who works at the University of Arts Helsinki as a Professor of Artistic Research. Her interest is in choreography as an expanded field to discuss topics such as inclusion, strategic negotiations, and micro-politics.
As an independent artist Maryam has worked across curating, dance writing, and embodied practices, bringing together global collaborations and ethical approaches to curation. Her artistic research and practice looks at embodied practices within the context of exile, migration, reparative strategies, strategies of resistance, and practice of freedom. The festival of Folded Possibilities (2023 & 2024, Trondheim, Norway) is one of her choreo-political negotiations proposing a migratory and nomadic mode of presence that is potential to sustain balance when grounds are uneven.
