Hanna Hurskainen

Introduction

Hanna Hurskainen is a Lecturer in Musical Theatre at the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki and at Tampere University of Applied Sciences, where she also serves as Degree Programme Coordinator for Music Theatre within the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Music. Her areas of expertise include musical theatre as an art form and artistic-pedagogical practice, as well as musical theatre singing, her principal instrument.

Hurskainen has played a central role in developing musical theatre education in Finland across both the university of applied sciences and university sectors. She is a doctoral researcher in the Sibelius Academy Doctoral Programme and Research Centre at the University of the Arts Helsinki. Her research examines musical theatre education as a pedagogical practice, musical theatre singing as an artistic and pedagogical phenomenon, and the process of becoming an artist in higher education.
