Uniarts Helsinki hosts the 36th World Conference of the International Society of Music Education ISME in August 2024

Carrying the theme Advocacy for Sustainability in Music Education, the conference aims to foster global understanding and co-operation among music and arts educators around the world.

The 36th ISME World Conference is organized in Helsinki, Finland from 28 July to 2 August 2024. By strengthening ties and sharing ideas about diverse aspects and issues within music and arts education, the conference helps to promote music and the arts worldwide for people of all ages. It provides a platform that invites music education scholars, educators, and other stakeholders to ask questions, imagine ways forward, and create new partnerships for change. The conference will open avenues to explore a sphere of possibilities for pursuing and advocating for sustainability in and through music education.

Bringing forward global aspects, visions, and possibilities of music education

Music education has a crucial role in advancing the wellbeing of the individual, community, and society. The recent uncertain times further highlight the importance of envisioning, exploring, and advocating for the many opportunities that music education can offer for enhancing a sense of belonging, equity, and inclusion as well as ecological sustainability.

Music education can have its own significant role in transforming the world towards a sustainable future. Uniarts Helsinki, as the host organization of this event, believes that music and other arts have enormous potential to make a difference in the world. We need all that potential, all the questions and new partnerships for change that music educators and other stakeholders can offer.
