University of the Arts Helsinki - Sibelius Academy presents:

Spirit of beings – 1st post-graduate recital of Iida-Vilhelmiina Sinivalo

Cellist Iida-Vilhelmiina Sinivalo begins her series of post-graduate recitals with an exploration of how the idiom of the cello and the cellist changes in various roles, circumstances and musical environments. The composers featured are Dai Fujikura, Jukka Tiensuu, Tan Dun and Claude Bolling.

The first part of the programme with works using electronics and amplification, may be seen as a narrative of continuous change – from birth to tragic death.

The interval is followed by a Suite for cello and jazz piano trio by Claude Bolling, who has developed a genre described as chamber jazz. It is a benevolent contemplation of the sombre themes of the first half of the programme while also reflecting on the tradition of classical cello playing.
