Suora lähetys Musiikkitalosta: Academy Brass, conductor Atso Almila

| video

University of the Arts Helsinki - Sibelius Academy presents:

Academy Brass, conductor Atso Almila

Music for brass.

Conductor and composer Atso Almila began his career as a trombone player, and brass has always occupied a special place in his heart.

This energetic concert by the Academy Brass opens with Almila’s brilliant TePaTePa, while Bizet’s ever-popular L’Arlésienne suite transports listeners to a fairy-tale world. After the interval, we are treated to a sequence of fantasy images. Mussorgsky’s classic piano work Pictures at an Exhibition has been arranged for various ensembles; the brass arrangement by Elgar Howarth is one of the more exotic versions.

This concert is a collaboration between Sibelius Academy, Uniarts Helsinki and The Norwegian Academy of Music (Norges musikkhøgskole, NMH). Nine brass students from NMH are playing together with students from the Sibelius Academy in the concert’s Academy Brass ensemble.
