University of the Arts Helsinki - Sibelius Academy presents:

Sibis Jazz Ensemble 2 with Terell Stafford

Since 2014, the Department of Jazz has been inviting a celebrated international artist each year to lead two ensembles of jazz music students. The guest artist plans the repertoire and also performs with the ensembles.

This year, our guest artist is trumpetist Terell Stafford from the USA. He is known as a talented and versatile musician whose performances combine a love of beautiful tunes with a soulful yet experimental lyrical touch.

Stafford has played in numerous ensembles in his career, including the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Alumni Band, the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band and McCoy Tyner’s Sextet. He has played on more than 130 albums and is a Grammy award winner.

In the field of jazz, Stafford is known not only as a performer but also as a band leader and educator. Thanks to his exceptionally powerful musical idiom, he is well placed to build on the tradition of earlier trumpet virtuosos while blazing new trails.

Ensemble 2:
Daniele Patton, drums
Lassi Friman, guitar
Tuomas Talvi, bass
Jesse Vilhomaa, saxophone
Juho Valjakka, piano
Terell Stafford, trumpet & band leader
