Opening Thursday 15.8.2019 at 17–22
Performance by Timo Viialainen 19:00
A group exhibition and 2-day discussion event exploring how we understand and represent physical realities through making things. It presents sculptural ideas and things by students of the Fine Arts Academy Helsinki alongside international artists.
Situated in the context of the Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki, the exhibition inherently explores the field of work of the Academy - guiding the future generation of artists to explore what can be made against the backdrop of sculptural tradition. Can we still maintain that the identity of sculpture is rooted in the classical understanding of the figure or body in space? And how is this complicated by the role of technologies in contemporary formulations of the world?
Artists: Beth Collar, Dan Cole, Eetu Sihvonen, Eeva-Maija Pulkkinen, Florian Roithmayr, Hannah Bohnen, Hemuloordi, Jaakko Lahti, Laura Dahlberg, Leena Saarinen, Matej Strojan, Sampo Aatos, Sara Blosseville, Timo Aho, Timo Viialainen
Conversations in Dimensions Tomorrow
Thursday 5.9 (10:00-17:00) & Friday 6.9.19 (10:00-15:00)
While the exhibition explores ideas of the sculptural through the act of making, the two day discursive symposium allows for wider, deeper, stranger conversations about the different states of sculpture. It begins with making, physicality and the things sculptors are interested in, moving outwards to environment, ritual and public.
