Founded in Helsinki, The Middle Eastern Orchestra is a unique Arabic and Middle Eastern orchestra, which is the first of its kind in Finland. This large scale inter-cultural orchestra is made up of 30-40 professional musicians from 15-20 different countries, who now call Finland home. The artistic director and founder of the Orchestra is oud player Ali Haithem from Iraq.

The orchestra delivers an impressive range of melodies, rhythms, and musical fireworks, including energetic and danceable yet touching and melancholic tunes. The program consists of Middle Eastern classical and folk music such as Arabic, Persian, Turkish, and Kurdish music, arranged in new and creative ways by members of the orchestra. The soundscape of the Orchestra is characterized by Arabic instruments such as the oud, tabla, riq, ney, qanoun, and saz, together with Western instruments including violin, viola, cello, accordion, trumpet, clarinet, and piano.

Music is not only an important channel to transmit the richness and beauty of the Middle Eastern musical traditions, but also a vehicle to create dialogue, bridges, and collaboration between Western and Middle Eastern cultures, reminding us of the importance and power of the arts in our world.
