Cityscapes - A Concert by Helsinki Junk Orchestra
Helsinki Junk Orchestra is a group of musicians and artists playing a unique collection of selfmade instruments. Their instruments are made from junk salvaged from trash cans, basements and recycle bins. No object is impossible in their construction projects. The instruments are built from eg. metal sheets, springs, cans, tubes, metal detectors, grid, badminton racket, rubber bands, chopsticks, forks, screws, nuts, net, and so on. With the help of special microphones, guitar pedals and effect processors, the musicians create sonic textures we have never heard before.
In this cinema concert HJO accompany historical and rare film footage from Helsinki. The group builds up improvised and hypnotic sound textures, thus giving the moving pictures a unique sonic commentary track.
The members of Helsinki Junk Orchestra are:
Petri Kuljuntausta, advisor
Tero Vänttinen, advisor
The concert is produced by Sound Art & Sonic Arts study programme, Uniarts Helsinki.
